What is Math

There is evidence of Math in the very beginning of recorded history. It is considered to be the universal language among all cultures. It is the only language that we share and understand regardless of your origin or upbringing. However, it is also regarded as the most hated subject in school and the most boring. To me, math is a way of thinking and understanding. It introduces deductive reasoning to young minds and shapes their critical thinking. To the building blocks of the Empire state building to the simple planning and designing of a garden in your yard - Math is evident to all aspects of life. We use math every day whether we realize it or not. It is often mistaken in the classroom and seen as a subject that has only one path and one answer. On the contrary, I believe Math is neither about one procedure nor one correct answer. I'm often asked by my students, "Why do we have to learn this?" and "How does this apply to my life?" I give them the answer that I believe in- "Math is about solving problems and life is full of them... so let's get practicing!"

Beauty of Mathematics

"Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty — a beauty cold and austere, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music." —Bertrand Russell
