The BSAM Curriculum
The Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, offered by the Department of Mathematics, was first introduced in 2006.
It is an undergraduate degree program that has achieved LEVEL III Re-Accredited Status among the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Philippines, as recognized by the Accrediting Agency for Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).
WVSU is one of the only three SUCs offering this program in the Western Visayas Region.
This undergraduate degree program aims to:
equip students with enhanced mathematical and critical thinking skills; developed deeper appreciation and understanding of the importance of mathematics in history and the modern world;
do research or perform jobs that require analytical thinking and quantitative skills;
gain mastery in the core areas of mathematics: algebra, analysis and geometry;
demonstrate skills in pattern recognition, generalization, abstraction, critical analysis, synthesis, problem solving and rigorous argument;
develop an enhanced perception of the vitality and importance of mathematics in the modern world including inter-relationships within math and its connection to other disciplines;
appreciate the concept and role of proof and reasoning and demonstrate knowledge in reading and writing mathematical proofs;
make and evaluate mathematical conjectures and arguments and validate their own mathematical thinking; and
communicate mathematical ideas orally and in writing using clear precise language.
Applicants to the BS in Applied Mathematics degree program are screened based on their high school scholastic records, present scholastic aptitude, character, and acceptance of the mission statement, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the College and the Department.
Candidates must pass the Applied Mathematics Admission Test and Screening & Interview with the WVSU Applied Mathematics Admissions and Selection Committee and submit documentary and other requirements set forth by the Department, College, and University.
Admission to the program is based on ranking.
