Students must complete 2.0 credits of Health and Physical Education. 0.5 credit of Health and 0.5 credit of Intro to Fitness are required during 9th grade, and the remaining 1.0 credit of Physical Education can be completed anytime during their 10th, 11th or 12th grade year.
9th Grade Requirement
Semester Long Course
Health integrates a variety of health concepts, skills and behaviors to plan for personal and lifelong health goals. In developing their plans, students will utilize research and goal-setting. Not only will students develop conceptual plans, but they will incorporate the plans into daily routines that will encourage the demonstration and implementation of healthy activities and behaviors. This class is a combination of classroom based health curriculum and physical fitness activities.
9th Grade Requirement
Semester Long Course
In the first required semester of Fitness, students will participate in a variety of activities (sports, games, and fitness) in which they will demonstrate competency in activity-specific skills. Students will also apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance, demonstrate knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness, exhibit responsible personal and social behavior, and recognize the value of physical activity. Students will analyze individual health behaviors and analyze their current fitness levels, demonstrate an ability to set and adjust individual fitness goals, and create and implement a personal health and fitness plan.
9th, 10th, 11th, 12th
Semester or Year Long Course
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Intro to Fitness
In this required course, students will expand on the concepts and skills from Intro to Fitness. Students will refine activity specific skills, apply principles and create strategies to improve performance. Leadership and best practices for creating a safe physical activity environment will be a theme throughout. Creating, implementing, monitoring, self-assessing, and modifying a personal fitness and nutrition plan is also a key part of this course. The fitness center and activity monitors will be used to assess progress towards fitness goals.

Semester or Year Long Course
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Intro to Fitness
Strength Training is a class designed for students who are interested in developing muscular strength and endurance. Programs will be individualized and the development of speed, strength, flexibility and endurance will be emphasized. Students will be trained both anaerobically (weights) and aerobically (cardio fitness). One day per week is devoted to cardiovascular fitness (aerobic) training. Four days per week are spent in weight lifting for strength and endurance.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Strength Training and personal transportation for regular attendance. Please note this course is from 6:50am to 7:55am.
This course emphasizes muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, and safety. There must be an understanding of core lifts in this course, which include parallel squats, cleans, bench press, and deadlift. Weight room safety, warm-up/cool-down procedures, lifting technique and safety for all lifts, major muscle identification, and individual goal setting are all important components in this course. In addition, students will monitor and improve their fitness levels by participating in the plyometric assessments throughout the semester.
