2T and Jazz

Added recently using Proposition 28 funding, jazz is becoming a popular addition to the Stonegate and Bridgeway Island experience in music. Meeting once per week, students have the opportunity to join different level ensembles based on experience and interest.

Traditional Turtles (Tuesdays 3:30-5pm)

This is our audition based ensemble featuring a select group of students who perform for our local community, in competitions, and train for a high school jazz experience with the renowned Syncopating Sea Monkeys of River City High School. Building off of the skills learned in the Jazz Workshop, these students apply their learning through performances across the school year. Their first performance of the year will be the Mediterranean Festival on September 19th in West Sacramento. Other events throughout the year include the Teagarden Jazz Festival, Music in the Parks, JAM (Jazz Appreciation Month) Concerts, and other school festivals.

Auditions for 2t in 2026 will be on August 25

Jazz Skills workshop (Thursdays 3:30-5pm)

This is an open to all students group focused on building skills in jazz. Working through our Jazz Method Book as well as other lead sheet notation, this ensemble focuses on an appreciation for jazz and exploration of improvisation. Music theory supplements this course and students will perform at our end of semester performances. If attending Stonegate, students will perform with Stonegate students. The same applies to our Bridgeway students. Mixed ensembles are encouraged and allowed for collaboration but will not be forced to perform if time constraints occur.
