Focused Note-Taking Notes Rubric

Formatting:

• Has at least 1 page of notes per class period *

• Heading: (Name/Class/Topic/Period/Date)

• Notes titled. Extra Point for writing an Essential Question

Note Taking:

• Notes are recorded

• Notes are organized (chunked paragraphs, bullet points, etc.)

Note Interacting:

• Evidence of note-processing/interacting

• -Examples: Marking the notes, annotating, using colors, writing questions, writing supplemental notes, rewriting some or all notes

Note Reflecting:

• Summarizing (Capture the most important aspects of your notes): What have I learned? Answer the Essential Question

• Reflecting: How will this be useful? Consider how the learning helps you meet the note-taking objective. Plan where you go from here

Learning Log**

Format:

• Heading: (Name/Class/Topic/Period/Date)

• 150 words (minimum) typed

• Appropriate/Relevant Title. Extra Point for writing an Essential Question

Content:

• What did you learn (specifics)?

• Answers the Essential Question in detail by synthesizing and connecting the main ideas

• Vocabulary/Key terms are included and underlined

• Create at least 1 test question that could be asked about this topic (highlight)

Reflection:

• Answers at least 2 of the following:

• What did you understand or not understand about the topic?

• How will this be useful?

• How did the learning helps you meet the note-taking objective?

• Plan: where do you go/what do you do from here?

*A maximum of 4 learning logs may be used per week

** 1 learning Log is equivalent to 1 class period of notes
