F.4 Biology students participated in the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition (HKSSPC). They conducted an investigation project on Instant Meat Spoilage Detector. It was hoped that this instant food spoilage detector can be incorporated into the packaging of fresh meat so that food spoilage can be detected, and people would not easily eat the spoiled food and get infected with foodborne diseases.
In this project, students tried to use different natural tubings to precede the process of ‘desalination’ and investigate the ability of ‘desalination’ of different tubings by using domestic waste water. They found the most suitable tubing and conditions in hopes to remove salt from the seawater before the actual desalination to be done by the government.
