Plagiarism Policy & Academic Integrity:
While much information is readily available to us in this digital age, it is very important that we only include original thoughts when it comes to student work, so as to appropriately gauge the level of understanding a student has obtained. If student work comes across as plagiarized, the following actions will be taken:
1st offense: Conference with student & note in Genesis.
2nd offense: Loss of credit for initial assignment & parent conference. The student will be able to make up the assignment with an opportunity to earn up to a 95.
3rd and continuing offenses: Loss of credit for the assignment, parents & administration will be notified. The student will no longer be able to make up plagiarized assignments.
Working with peers is important to a science course, but it is important that work is not copied verbatim. Peers that work collaboratively should have the same ideas, but not share google documents that were only filled out by one person (unless we are doing an activity in which someone is asked to act as a scribe for their group). Cases where students are utilizing the work of a friend instead of completing assignments themselves will be treated as plagiarism.
