Ms. Bhasin’s Chemistry Course Expectations

Your marking period grade will be based on the following areas:

Major assessments- Tests: (50%) Several days notice will be given before each test.

Minor assessments 50%

Quizzes: A few days’ notice will usually be given; however there will be some short, unannounced quizzes.

Laboratory reports: one lab write-up per marking period. Refer to method of write-up. Note: tests and quizzes may contain questions relating to lab content.

Class work: Includes class work assignments, lab technique, participation, and being on task and readiness for class.

Homework/classwork: Credit will be given based on correctness and completion. Late homework will not receive credit.

Classroom Supplies:

Charged Chromebook

Binder

Pencil and pen

These items must be brought to class at all times, unless otherwise indicated.

A limited supply of school calculators are available, but cannot be relied upon. Bring your own.

Availability:

I will be available before school for study/help sessions. Please take advantage of these sessions as often as possible.

Please let me know if you need help at any other time so that I can be certain to be in my room when you show up or let you know if I will be unavailable.

Make-up work and late work: As per school rules

1. Homework is due the day after assigned unless otherwise specified and will usually be checked as soon as class begins. Late homework assignments will not be accepted if you were present when the assignment was given and if you fail to have it completed on its due date. If you are absent the day an assignment is due, it is up to you to remember to turn it in the day you return to school.

2. Make-up work will be permitted as per school rules. Please note that it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to obtain the work from me and to remember to hand it in. Otherwise, you will receive a zero.

3. You will also have as many days as you were absent according to school rules to make up tests and quizzes. However, if you are absent for a test or quiz but were present for the material covered, it will be taken upon your immediate return to school.

Other regulations:

1. You are expected to be in your assigned seat before the bell sounds.

2. Common courtesy and respect is to be observed at all times. Interrupting a lesson will not be tolerated.

3. You are expected to remain seated until dismissed by the bell.

4. Students are expected to adhere to all school policies. You are expected to follow all school rules.

5. Students who wish to use the bathroom may do so provided they are not interrupting me in the middle of a lesson. Students must sign out and obtain a signed pass from the teacher Students will not be permitted to leave the room to use the bathroom in the first 10 minutes of class or the last 10 minutes of class

6. Eating and drinking is NOT allowed in the lab classroom.

7. Follow all school rules regarding use of electronics.

Failure to adhere to the above rules will result in the following consequences:

1. Warning

2. Parent phone calls

3. Office referrals

These consequences may or may not be given in order, depending on the severity of the misbehavior.

Safety

All students will pass a mandatory Safety Proficiency Examination and sign a Safety Contract before participating in laboratory exercises. Teachers review safety procedures with each class before each laboratory. All laboratories will conform to the PEOSHA Laboratory Standards adopted by the Woodbridge Township Board of Education and available on the Woodbridge Township Education Website.
