General behavior should adhere to the guidelines in the Code of Conduct for Students for Woodbridge High School.
All Woodbridge High School rules apply in the Art Studio.
Come in with a positive attitude and always be ready to engage in classroom activities.
Respect the teacher, your peers, and the property of others.
Listen when the teacher or fellow students are speaking and do not interrupt.
Questions are welcome! Just raise your hand and ask politely.
The exchange of ideas is encouraged and social conversations are permissible while working when the teacher is not talking and you remain productive. Just keep the volume to a very reasonable level.
Exercise self-control in actions and speech.
Do not chew gum, eat or drink in the classroom!
Materials
You are expected to come to class prepared every day, which includes bringing pencils and erasers.
Use all materials appropriately and carefully, recognizing that others also use the same materials.
Maintain a clean workspace while you are working.
Clean up your workspace five minutes before the end of the class.
As part of a class, you are expected to help maintain the overall cleanliness and organization of the studio.
You are welcome to borrow materials from the classroom to work at home. You will be asked to sign out these materials and are responsible for their return in usable condition. Any materials not returned or returned in less than usable condition will incur a fine equal to the replacement cost of the materials.
Academic Performance
Always be prepared with materials and assignments for class.
Be original! Your work should express your own ideas. Play with new ideas and concepts and don’t be afraid to experiment and change them as you go along. Avoid using images that have become clichés. These are images that are over-used like hearts, stars, butterflies and skulls
Don’t plagiarize! It’s fine to get inspiration from artwork and images created by other people, but you may not COPY them. Change them, alter them, get creative and find ways to be inspired and make them your own. “The penalty of plagiarism is a grade of zero on the assignment with no make-up permitted. The incident will be reported to the student’s parents/guardians, guidance counselor and the school administrators. A parental conference with school officials may also be required.” [BOE Policy #586] This includes the submission of written work that has been copied from another source.
Plan and organize your work. This way you will do your best work. Thumbnail sketches and your sketchbook are some of your best creative tools.
Use class time wisely and put forth your best genuine effort.
Take pride in every aspect of your work. Always present work produced with your best craftsmanship.
Participate in class and in class critiques. Offer suggestions and encouragement to your peers. Use art terminology to make constructive observations during class critiques.
Submit assignments on time. Late assignments will be penalized 10 points every day it is late- after the 5th day it will automatically be a 50.
Always see the teacher for extra help if you need it.
