Begin Warm-Up (usually independent reading)
Teacher dismisses you, not the bell
Please remain at seats
Once teacher gives dismissal, return materials to mail slots and tidy/even desks
Exit class quietly & calmly (greetings okay)
Bell will sound twice
Freeze
Heads up & turn toward speaker (may be a peer, too)
Give full attention, including eye contact, to speaker
Return to work once instruction given
Teacher will always double check with students before working time (i.e. "Who can remind me what the steps are for this assignment?")
Use bell to pose request for help to class
Teacher available 3-5 minutes after independent working time begins
Maintain respect for and contribute to a productive environment
Work with minimal to no noise, depending on assignment
Early finishers may go into independent reading with book chosen from library, or freewriting in notebooks
Treat peers with the same respect you wish to receive
Be open to different ideas and opinions
Use positive language when disagreements occur (try to understand your peers)
Actively contribute your share of the work
