Dear families,
My name is Mrs. Turekian and I am your child's art teacher. For as long as I can remember, I have always had a love for art. Ever since I was a little girl, I would spend hours drawing and painting. I am so lucky that I get to share my passion for art with others as a teacher.
My career in education began when I attended Kean University in Union, New Jersey and received my Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts in Design as well as my K-12 Certification in Art Education. Several years later, I continued my education at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey and earned my Master's of Arts Degree in Educational Administration and Leadership. I also hold both Supervisor and Principal Certifications in the state of New Jersey.
This is my 13th year as an art teacher and in the Woodbridge Township School District. I am fortunate enough to teach art to students at all different levels and backgrounds including English Language Learners, Special Education, Autistic, and the Learning Disabled. As an elementary art teacher, I typically teach at several schools each year. So far, I have taught at eight elementary schools in our district. When I'm not teaching or painting, I enjoy spending time at the beach and hanging out with my husband and our dogs, Lola and Rigatoni, as well as my family, and friends.
To me, art is about the process, not the final product. It is about learning, brainstorming, interacting, and creating. I believe that art plays a vital role in education. Art teaches us how problem solve, how to make decisions, how to look at and understand the world from a different perspective, and art challenges us.
I am so excited to start this school year. I know it is going to be a great one! If at any time you have questions, please feel free to contact me.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Katie Crilley Turekian
