Experience
Mrs. Smyth has been a teacher at Colonia High School since 2010. Her previous work experience was in the fields of both engineering and education.
Engineering work was in water and wastewater treatment and conveyance, solid waste management, environmental permitting as well as environmental inspections and enforcement. She currently holds a Professional Engineering license. Her first job as an engineer was for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
Education experience includes teaching Engineering Technology 1, 2, & 3 with college credit opportunities through Middlesex College, Engineering Design and Development, Principles of Engineering, Introduction to Engineering Design, Chemistry, Physics (including AP), General Science, Integrated Science and Environmental Science. Additionally, she has led science camps and demonstrations for elementary school students and tutored SAT Math.
In August 2017, August 2018, and July 2019, she served as a Guest Evaluator at Cooper Union's Invention Factory.
In October 2019, the team of Ms. Greffer and Mrs. Smyth was awarded a BASF STEM Education Grant.
In November 2022 and 2023, she helped coordinate Engineering Technology trips to Middlesex College.
In July 2023, she was a volunteer for National Trails Day and Fresh for All.
In July 2024, she worked on District Science Curriculum updates and attended a College Board AP Summer Institute.
In July 2025, Mrs. Smyth attended another College Board AP Summer Institute and worked as a volunteer for Project Appreciation and VCSJ.
