The mission of the Occupational and Physical Therapy department is to enhance students' ability to engage in their educational setting by delivering both direct and consultative therapeutic services that address challenges related to fine and gross motor skills, self-help skills, and other related areas, ensuring all students have equitable access to their learning environment.
Occupational Therapy
School-based Occupational Therapy (OT) services are provided to address individualized skills that challenge students in the classroom environment. OT interventions are determined based on the student’s age and abilities, and can range from fine motor skills, self-help skills, handwriting, typing, visual motor and perceptual skills, sensorimotor regulation, vocational skills, safety, executive functioning, and social participation. Referred students are evaluated to determine eligibility for services in the school setting. Occupational therapists work as a support to classroom staff to help students access their educational environment.
Physical Therapy
School-based Physical Therapy (PT) services are provided to help students develop gross motor skills to be more independent in the school environment. Students referred for PT are evaluated to determine eligibility for services in the school setting. PT works on skills such as walking, stair climbing, jumping, ball skill activities, and playground activities. Therapists educate school staff in order to improve the generalization of functional abilities across school settings and to ensure students can fully participate in school activities.
