Class Procedures/Expectations:
Policies for Attendance
Arrive to class every day on time and prepared (notebook, pencil/pen, username/password)
All lates & absences must be excused (unexcused lates/cutting class will result in disciplinary action)
Policies for Make-Up Work
Students are responsible for all missed assignments due to absence
When you return from absence, check Google Classroom for the day(s) you missed and THEN see Mrs. Salsman with any questions
Students are given two (2) days for every one (1) day of absence to make up all missed assignments (school policy)
Policies for Sub Work
To ensure students are making good use of class time when there is a substitute, assignments given when the teacher is absent will be due at the end of the block, or the following day with no opportunity for make up.
Students should communicated any technical difficulties to the sub as well as to the teacher in an email.
Policies for Classroom Conduct & Behavior
When you arrive to class, QUIETLY:
Hand in any written/printed assignments in the basket
Go to your seat and log onto the PC
Open Google Classroom to check the Daily Objectives
Begin DO NOW
During class: No talking or walking around while the teacher is giving a lesson, no horseplay, and no excessive grooming/eating/bodily functions are permitted; Additionally, no use of foul language, verbal or physical abuse, or intolerant behavior is permitted. Of course all other school policies apply including cell phone use and dress code.
Borrowing materials: Please return borrowed pencils to the pencil cup. A charging station is available on the window sill but students may not take chargers to their seats.
Before you leave class, PLEASE:

Push in your chair
Policies for Use of Technology
Students are only to use the Internet and any other devices/programs when instructed by the teacher to do so for an assignment. We will be using the desktop computers, not Chromebooks. Violation of the cell phone contract will result in disciplinary action (see below).
Policies for Use of Devices
Cell phones are not permitted at JFK during the school day. The consequences for students found with a cell phone (or headphones/earbuds/smart glasses/smart watches) are as follows:
1st violation: Warning
2nd violation:
Phone turned into the main office
Parents contacted
3rd violation:
Phone turned into the main office
Parent contacted
Cell phone pouch for 5 days
Re-sign student contract
4th violation:
Phone turned into the main office
Parent contacted
Cell phone pouch for 10 days
1 day of ACS
5th+ violation:
Phone turned in to main office
Parent contacted
Cell phone pouch for 20+ days
2 days of ACS
Grading Policy:
50% of your grade will be based on major assessments. This includes tests/projects. During presentations and group work, I will factor participation into the grade.
50% of your grade will be based on minor assessments. This includes quizzes, class work, homework, and other activities.
Assignments are late if they are not turned in by the deadline. Hard copy assignments are due in the basket at the beginning of the block. Online assignments should be turned in on Google Classroom by the submission deadline.
Late assignments will result in deduction from the grade 10 points for each day up to 5 days.
One day late = minus 10, 2 days late = minus 20, and so on.
There will be zero tolerance for any form of cheating on any assignment. Students caught cheating will be given a zero for that assignment with no make-up opportunity. This includes plagiarism, file sharing, AI, unauthorized resources, etc.
Loss of credit: In a 2.5 credit class, students will lose credit for the course if they are absent 4 times (unexcused) throughout the marking period. In a 5 credit class, students will lose credit for the course if they are absent 8 times (unexcused) throughout the semeseter.
