7th Grade:
Spanish 1A Course Description
Middle School Core Proficiencies
By the end of the 7th grade, students enrolled in the Spanish 1A course will be able to use the target language in the three modes of communication (Interpretive, Interpersonal and Presentational), to do the following:
- introduce themselves, tell their ages and origin and ask others their names, ages and origin;
- share physical and personality descriptions about themselves and others;
- discuss their likes, dislikes and preferences related to the categories of sports, music, classes and food;
- describe their families by giving descriptions of individual family members/family unit and discuss the activities they do together;
- express their likes, dislikes and preferences for leisure time activities;
- recognize and imitate common gestures and cultural practices from the target culture; and
- develop a respect and appreciation for the Spanish culture, its products and practices.
In order to accomplish these objectives, students will need to learn basic greetings/farewell expressions and getting to know you vocabulary, numbers from 1-100, common adjectives used to describe physical attributes and personality traits, and verb infinitives which reflect their free time activities. Using face to face communication or digital tools to exchange information with classmates and members of the target culture, students will ask and respond appropriately to questions related to each unit topic. Students will make cultural connections by exploring the similarities and differences between the home and target cultures as it relates to each unit.
Cultural Content Statement:

(Topics that assist in the development of this understanding include, but are not limited to: self, friends, family, pets, physical/personality descriptions, school, likes/dislikes and pastimes).
