PBIS stands for "Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports."
At CMS our goal continues to be to improve the overall environment of the school & to ensure the maximum success of each student. We utilize the PBIS program to assist us in reaching our goal. We start the school year by educating the students on the overarching goals of CMS. We believe that it is imperative for all students to demonstrate respect, responsibility and readiness on a daily basis. Students earn Patriots Points during the school day by demonstrating respect, responsibility and readiness.
The teachers at Colonia Middle School use the PBIS Rewards App to electronically award Patriot Points to students. Students & parents can view the points awarded & purchase prizes. In an effort to bring the entire school community together our PBIS committee organizes three school wide events for the students throughout the year. These events include student to teacher competitions, guest speakers, pep rallies and class level competitions. To raise money for the program CMS hosts a Walk-A- Thon in October. The money raised for the Walk-A-Thon, funds the PBIS program throughout the year. The money is spent on restocking our school store, monthly events (rewards), our 3 school-wide events and an end of the year field trip (purchased with Patriot Points or won on Raffle wheel). Students are a driving force for the program. Eighth and Seventh grade students at CMS serve as a PBIS student task force. These students work our school store and provide feedback on our PBIS program by helping plan events and suggesting prizes.
