In this class, students who have been enrolled into the Reading Enhancement Program will have the opportunity to really focus on their reading and writing skills. By following a more on grade level class structure, I work hard to make sure students feel confident and comfortable in their reading, writing, and understanding. In my class we read many short stories, novels, and articles; work on sentence structure and writing skills based on our readings; and students will frequently work together to build their skills amongst their peers.
My goal is to have my students leave this class feeling confident in their ability to read and write throughout their lifetime.
This school year's reading focus:
Mrs. Gonzalez's Classroom Rules & Expectations
During the semester I am hoping that you will open your mind and engage yourself fully within the curriculum. Below is a list of classroom rules and regulations that will be followed throughout the semester to ensure that everyone learns and excels to their greatest potential.
Be respectful and understanding - of yourselves, of your classmates, of your teacher, and of anyone who may visit this room.
LATE POLICY
you get written up every two times you are late to class. If you walk in the room any time after the bell rings, you will be considered late - no matter what.
GRADING POLICY
All class work that is not done during class time must be completed for homework and submitted before the beginning of class the next day.
Pay attention to due dates! All information for assignments will be posted in Google Classroom.
Any assignments that are handed in over a week late, without any communication with Mrs. Gonzalez, will be an automatic zero.
If you are absent - you have two days for every day you are out to complete an assignment.
50% on an assignment is not automatically given just for turning something in. You must show effort and an attempt to understand (Ask for help if you are confused about something!).
CELL PHONE POLICY
I don't want to have to tell you to put your phone away, so don't make me. I will let you know if and when it is an appropriate time to have your phone out.
EARBUD POLICY
same as the cell phone policy. I will let you know when and if you are allowed to use them.
Let's talk about the couch in the room... don't sit on it. You are not allowed to sit on the couch at any point unless given permission to do so.
FOOD AND DRINK POLICY
I get it, you get hungry throughout the day - however, my classroom is not a place for you to eat a full three course meal or a place for you to share snacks with your friends.
1st Block - if you don't get a chance to finish your breakfast, you have until 8am to do so.
No one is allowed in this classroom unless I give them permission to enter. Do not invite your friends in, yell to them if you see them in the hallway, etc.
Have patience with yourself and with others - we all learn differently, be mindful of that. Anyone who makes another feel uncomfortable will be asked to leave the room.
The most important rule of all - always try your best and stay positive.
