                                                SPELLING

Words will be sent home at the beginning of each week.  They will have about 2 weeks to practice the spelling skill. There will be a test after the skill has been learned.

Activities for home practice for each week....

Day 1~ Practice your words 3x each.

Day 2~ Put your words in ABC order.

Day 3~ Write your words in a story.

Day 4~ Write your words in rainbow colors!

Repeat for the 2nd week. Study the spelling patterns. Look for the patterns in words during your nightly reading. 

This year, we will be learning about many different subjects: nouns, plural & singular nouns,concrete and abstract nouns,  proper nouns,possessive nouns,verb~ past, present, & future, irregular verbs,subjects & predicates, complete sentences
& sentence fragments, types of sentences, adjectives, adverbs,contractions,  prepositions, using commas correctly, and using quotations correctly, 

The students will learn how to use these appropriately into their own writing. They will complete daily corrections while in school about what we learn. This helps with their grammar and editing skills. 

Websites like BrainPop, BrainPop Jr, Flocabulary, Khan Academy, IXL and Kids Youtube are used to help teach and reinforce skills.

  This year we will be following the writing program with our new Benchmark Advance Language Arts program.

Students will keep a daily journal while in school about various topics that occur in their lives. 

Students can also keep a journal at home (like a diary) of things they are doing, how they are feeling, things they like, letters to people....
