Contract highlights:

Materials 

1. A spiral-bound notebook or a binder with loose-leaf paper is REQUIRED for this course every day.

2. Pencils, erasers, pens, and highlighters must come with you to class every day.

3. A school-issued Chromebook must be with you AND charged every day. You MAY NOT charge your Chromebook in this class. However, we only use the Chromebook VERY rarely and will not be in use without my direction to do so.

4. You are expected to locate and secure your assigned book(s) and stow your personal electronic devices PRIOR to the bell. Failure to do so can affect your final grade. You will not be permitted to go to a locker once the bell rings. 

OTHER KEY EXPECTATIONS

5. AI is NOT acceptable for any part of any assignment or any part of the process for any assignment. Your assignments will be scanned for AI.

   1. If AI is used for any part of the process for completing any assignment, you will receive a zero without the opportunity to make up. This includes idea creation, organization guidance, drafting ideas, and creative influence.

6. Making up tests/quizzes is your responsibility. You have one week from the date of the absence to make up a quiz/test. If the quiz/test is not completed within the week, a zero will be given for the missing assessment. 

   1. You must schedule your makeup time immediately upon your return; it is your responsibility to make your work a priority, and I will not “hunt” for you. 

Behavioral Expectations:

1. You must arrive to class on time, sit in your assigned seat, and be prepared to learn (this means you have all materials out and ready and your cell phone in your assigned pocket at the front of the room).

2. Attendance is essential. Nothing can replace being present when the material is discussed/learned. Something always gets lost in translation.

3. Mature behavior and mutual respect are expected at all times. Foul or offensive language/comments will not be tolerated for any reason. 

4. SELF-REGULATION AND SELF-CONTROL should be demonstrated at all times. You are teenagers and should have the ability to remain silent and ignore things that irk you or that don’t pertain to you. Speak to me, privately, before addressing an annoyance.

5. Students will raise their hands for permission to speak. Be courteous; only one person will speak at a time.

6. Class participation is an integral part of this English class. Your contribution to class discussion will be reflected in your grade.

7. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. AI is never permitted for any portion of any assignment. If you are thinking of using AI, please always ASK ME prior to using these tools/shortcuts. Please see the Woodbridge Township BOE’s plagiarism policy.

8. NO PERSONAL DEVICES in use or on your person during class time AND during THE SCHOOL DAY (See personal device contract).

9. Chrome books will NOT be in regular use. DO NOT have Chromebooks on the desk or open without my prompting.
