My name is Katie Liastro and you may know me as a history teacher or a cheerleading coach, but there's a lot more to me than that!
I was born and raised in New Jersey. I began cheerleading at the age of 6, acting around the same time, and developed a love for history in high school (thanks to a few AMAZING history teachers). After high school, I attended the University of Delaware and graduated with a BA in History and a minor in Theatre. After college I worked in New York City for several years in fashion and television marketing. Although there were fun things about each of my jobs, I always felt like something was missing. Inspired by my mother, who was also an educator, I left New York City behind and enrolled in The College of New Jersey's graduate program. I graduated with a Masters degree in Secondary Education in 2019, and have been teaching in Woodbridge Township ever since.
During my first two years in the district, I split time between both WMS and WHS. My experience teaching at the high school allows me an opportunity to truly prepare my 8th grade students for the challenges and opportunities of high school. I am a HUGE proponent of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, and my goal is to help all of my students develop accountability for themselves and their academic careers.
On a personal note, I currently live in Mercer County with my husband and my two sons Jake and Ryan (ages 11 and 7) and our chocolate lab puppy Millie. When I am not teaching, you can find me spending time with my family, running, reading, hitting the beach and of course rooting for my beloved Buffalo Bills!
