Who is Mrs. Calvi?
I am the proud mother of 15-year-old twins and have always enjoyed working with children and young adults. My passion for mathematics began during my first career in accounting, where I spent five years working as an accountant for New York Life’s Investment Management Company. While I valued my experience in the business world, I ultimately felt drawn to education and returned to school to pursue my passion for teaching.
I began my teaching career at the elementary level, where I taught for seven years, including four years dedicated to teaching 5th-grade mathematics. Although I loved working with elementary students, I wanted to expand my experience and explore additional areas of mathematics, which led me to transition to the middle school setting in 2012.
Since joining AMS, I have taught 8th Grade Pre-Algebra and 8th Grade Algebra I Honors from 2012 to 2018. Seeking a new challenge and the opportunity to continue growing as an educator, I transitioned to teaching 6th Grade Math and 6th Grade Honors, where I have continued to develop my instructional practices and support students in building strong mathematical foundations.
Each school year brings new opportunities to inspire students, encourage curiosity, and foster a love of learning. I am passionate about helping young mathematicians develop confidence in their abilities and understand that with perseverance and dedication, they can achieve success in mathematics.
