Class Procedures and Expectations

Class Procedures/Expectations

We will be meeting via Google Meet for the entire block Monday through Thursday. Friday will be an independent work day with teacher office hours for extra help, questions, conferences, etc. Please use the following guidelines for participation in our virtual classroom:

  1. Join sessions on time and prepared:
    • Allow yourself time to wake up/get ready
    • Charge your devices
    • Log on a few minutes before class
    • Check the Google Classroom stream for the Daily Objectives/Do Now
    • Stay for the entirety of the block (absences and tardies will be penalized)
Late = Joining 10 or more minutes after block start timeCut = Missing from block for more than 20 minutes (beginning, middle, or end)
  1. Cameras should be on during the beginning of each block (for check-in, lectures, class discussions; I will let you know when you can turn them off for independent work time). When camera is on:
    • Dress appropriately
    • Sit up
    • Be in view
  2. Mute/unmute microphone as needed:
    • Mute yourself when the teacher or another student is talking
    • Unmute yourself if called on or to ask a question (after “raising your hand”)
    • Use headphones if you have them
  3. Actively participate each block via the chat feature and/or “raise hand” button. During lectures and discussions:
    • Be focused and attentive
    • Be respectful and kind
    • Ask for help when needed
  4. Be digitally responsible:
    • Use the Google Meet sessions and Google Classroom streams appropriately at all times
    • Remember you are on a school device
    • Keep your personal information private
  5. Use the Google Classroom stream to communicate (outside of Meet and Office Hour sessions).
    • Use a private comment if is specific to your individual work/grade; if I don’t reply within a few hours (during the school day) or by the next day (after school hours) send the comment again, or follow up with an email to matthew.creighton@woodbridge.k12.nj.us
    • Use the stream for communications that might concern the entire class (ex. a question for your peers about an assignment, a reply to a discussion question, etc.)
    • Be on the lookout for communications from me: private comments on assignments or private posts on the classroom stream
  6. Device/Connectivity issues:
    • Please communicate right away any technical issues to me at matthew.creighton@woodbridge.k12.nj.us or call guidance at 732-602-8669 if you do not have access to email at the time.

Grading Policy

Grade Breakdown:
  • 50% of your grade will be based on tests/major projects. This class will be predominately project-based but you will have tests from time to time. During presentations and group work, I will factor participation into the grade.
  • 25% of your grade will be based on quizzes and class work and 25% of your grade will be based on homework. Most computer assignments will not be for homework, but certain assignments done in class will be counted as a homework grade, class work grade, or quiz grade.
Grading Policies:
  • Students are responsible for all missed assignments due to absence
  • When you return from absence, check Google Classroom for the day(s) you missed and THEN contact me if you have any questions
  • Students are given two (2) days for every one (1) day of absence to make up all missed assignments (school policy)
  • Late assignments will result in deduction from the grade 10 points for each day up to 5 days.
One day late = minus 10, 2 days late = minus 20, etc.
  • There will be zero tolerance for any form of cheating on any assignment. Students caught cheating will be given a zero for that assignment with no make-up opportunity. This includes plagiarism, file sharing between students, etc.
  • Loss of credit: In a 2.5 credit class, students will lose credit for the course if they are absent 4 times (unexcused) throughout the course of the marking period.
