Welcome to Iselin Middle School and your Language Arts class. In this class, there will be a focus on understanding both fiction and nonfiction text. In addition, this will be a writing intensive class working toward improving our fluency in writing. This year is sure to be exciting and challenging as we return to the classroom. I look forward to starting this year's journey with you.
The goal of our reading workshop will be to develop students who enjoy reading while also asking important questions of the text. We will use our reading to develop deeper learning and engage in important discussions. As with everything we do, we work on developing life-long learners who are able to create their own opinions based on the various types of information they observe. With that, the focus becomes explaining their opinions in a clear manner both in written text and spoken word.
The goal of our writing workshop is to help students express themselves clearly and find their voice through writing. Students will work on writing a coherent, interesting and entertaining story that follows the proper writing rules in their narrative writing. In addition, students will work to write a well-thought out and concise essay based on facts and examples when they write expository essays.
Overall, my main goal is to give all students a safe learning environment to work on becoming a stronger writer and more effective communicator. Our novels are chosen to help students create connections to the characters and to help develop a greater understanding of the world around them. I look forward to helping engage my students in this endeavor.
