The term "Bucket Filler" comes from the book Have You Filled Your Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud. The concept of "bucket filling" is based on the idea that everyone carries an invisible bucket that holds our feelings and emotions. Our buckets get filled when we do kind things for others or when others are kind to us. A “bucket filler” is someone who shows positive character traits—such as kindness, respect, caring, and responsibility—and helps make others feel good. When our buckets are full, we feel happy; when they’re empty, we may feel sad or discouraged. In our classroom, we’ll be learning how to be bucket fillers every day and encouraging students to carry that kindness into their homes and communities. You can support your child by talking about these ideas at home and recognizing when they do something that fills your bucket or someone else's.
