This class will focus on the components of the Future City Competition which was created in order to introduce students to the many facets of the field of Engineering.
Future City is a cross-curricular program that lets students do the things engineers do: identify problems, brainstorm ideas, design solutions, test and retest, build and then share the results. Throughout this course, you will see what goes into planning and designing a city.
1. Futuristic Technology – Description and drawing of your futuristic tech solution with a focus on the theme and how you will incorporate it into your city.
2. City Model – 3D model representing your city using mostly recycled materials.
3. City Presentation - Present your future city.
4. Project Plan – Overall goals for your team throughout the process.
Students participating in Future City:
Apply math and science concepts to real-world issues
Develop writing, public speaking, problem solving, and time management skills
Research and propose solutions to engineering challenges
Discover different types of engineering and explore careers options
Learn how their communities work and become better citizens
Develop strong teamwork skills
Major Assignments – Counting as 1/3 of your grade (Writing component, 3D model, Presentations)
Minor Assessments – 2/3 of your grade (Including weekly participation grade, reflections, class work, homework)
Students will be assessed individually as well as group grades throughout the course. Any group that wants to continue to further develop their city after the marking period ends, we will be happy to assist those teams to possibly compete in the Virtual Regional Future City Competition on TBD January-February 2024.
*Only those teams who have successfully completed the course will be eligible.
