In this course, students select their own research-based science or engineering fair project, working individually or in groups of up to three. Materials and supplies vary by project and are the student's responsibility to gather. A notebook is recommended (a lightly-used one from another class works fine, since this course won't require extensive daily writing).

The course begins with hands-on activities introducing students to the science and engineering design process before they launch into independent project work. Students are assessed on progress through key milestones as their project develops, rather than solely on final results. Students will compete in the Woodbridge Science and Engineering Fair (SETS) at the end of May, with time built in to refine and improve their projects even after the marking period closes.
