Teachers will create and facilitate classroom lessons for the month of September 15th -October 15th that focus on Hispanic Heritage Month
The School Counseling/Guidance department will create and display a Hispanic Heritage Month bulletin board that highlights prominent Hispanic figures.
Elementary School Dance Visits: Miss Popino’s 8th grade dance class celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month through dance performances at Schools 18, 26, and 29.
IMS Lunch Performances and Dance Lessons: Students celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month through dance performances and interactive dance lessons during IMS lunches.
Hispanic Heritage Month Spirit Week: Themed spirit days encouraged students to celebrate Hispanic cultures, recognize diversity, and show schoolwide unity.
Students chose a famous person of Hispanic heritage to research. While they conducted their research we enjoyed music played in the class from artists of Hispanic heritage. Once they completed, we did a Speed Dating style rotation where students shared about their important figure before rotating to learn about others.
After watching an introductory video, students were assigned a person to research from Hispanic Heritage and were asked to complete some basic research. They ultimately learned of the many contributions to America by this important cultural group.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, students researched the traditions, celebrations, and clothing of different Hispanic countries. They then designed and created dolls dressed in outfits inspired by the culture of their chosen country. They used a variety of fabrics and materials to bring these ideas to life. This project celebrated cultural diversity while encouraging creativity, research, and artistic expression.
