Colonia Middle School - Classroom Expectations
Mrs. Sacco’s 7th Grade Science (2025-26)
Welcome! I am looking forward to working with you and your parents this school year. You will learn many things. You will participate, ask questions, help others, use your mind, be enthusiastic and take pride in your work. This year you will do lab work, participate in group discussions, be involved in group and individual presentations, computer work and scientific research.
Topics: Human Body Systems, Life Classification, Cells and Cell Processes, Cell Reproduction, Heredity, Evolution, Animal Diversity and Ecology.
. Materials- must always come to class with the following:
Charged Chromebook
1 inch binder with pockets or a notebook with pocket folders
Textbook
Highlighter
Paper
Pencils/Pens (I do not mind colors :)
Earbuds (keep in lockers for days we need them)
Assessment of Grades:
Major Assessments- Tests and projects will account for one third (33.3%) of the marking period grade.
Minor Assessments- Homework, class work, quizzes, Ask prep, laboratory reports and class behavior will account for two thirds (66.7%) of your grade.
Tests- Will be given at the end of each chapter and some chapters will be broken down. It is your responsibility to check your test prior to handing it in for completion. I give a minimum of 4 school days notice on tests
Quizzes- Will be on the subject matter we are currently going over in class. Quizzes will not be handed back to you if you forgot to answer questions or a whole side of a quiz. It is your responsibility to check your test prior to handing it in for completion. I do not give surprise quizzes.
Homework- We will follow the Colonia Middle School homework policy for any missed homework assignments. All Homework will be posted on my Google Site and written on the white board in class. It is your responsibility to write your assignments down or to check the schoolwires website located on the CMS website. Click “menu”, next “staff”and scroll down to my name to access the Google Site. Homework will not be handed back to you if you forgot to answer questions or a whole side of a worksheet. It is your responsibility to check your homework prior to handing it in for completion. Once an assignment is handed in, it will be graded as is. Students must all read directions carefully, when doing true or false questions. If the statement is false, you must change the underline word or words to make the statement true.
***Students who lost their worksheet can get another one the following day but will have to hand it in for a late grade.
*** If a student loses their lab work, they will receive an incomplete for the assignment. This cannot be replaced.
Class work- will consist of labs, discussions, research, and group activities. Participation is very important and will be incorporated in your grades. It is the student’s responsibility to copy any notes down in class or important points discussed in preparation for a test. Study guides are provided at least 4 days in advance.
Points will be taken off a lab activity if the student is not acting appropriately, did not clean up after their lab or if they are interfering with the learning of others in the classroom.
Behavioral Expectations
1. Students are to act appropriately.
, 2. Each day you will bring your material needed to class. (See above list)
3. When the bell rings, you will be seated in your seat and will start your “do now” assignment posted daily in Google classroom. You will be quiet. You will have a donow test at least once a semester, so it would only benefit you to get them done daily. It is your responsibility to make up any donow’s if absent. Each donow will be posted in the stream of Google Classroom.
4. If you have any questions or concerns, please raise your hand and I will come around after attendance is taken.
5. You are expected to complete all work assignments. If you have an assignment missing, it is your responsibility to come to my desk and give it to me the next day. If submitted via Google Classroom, I would be able to check timestamps.
6. Extra credit will be given periodically through the school year based on the current subject matter or current events.
7. If you complete your test before others are finished, you must quietly sit there and wait for your fellow classmates to finish. You may read your Independent Reading Book while you are waiting so please bring reading material to class on test days. I am also not letting students out of the class when the students of A lunch are going to their lockers. You make leave right after or before that time.
8. You will be considerate of the students in reading/writing across the hall from our classroom. (Use your indoor voices)
9. You may be removed from the lab if you take your goggles off without permission when working with hazardous materials. As a result, you may receive a 50 as your lab grade for that day. If behavior continues, you will be removed from the lab for the year. I have a set safe area if you need to adjust your goggles in my room, just let me know if you are having issues.
10. Classroom respect is mandatory. When a teacher is talking, students are listening. When a student is talking, the students and teacher are listening. During group work, students will work cooperatively.
11. No gum, candy permitted in the science classroom unless authorized. Only water allowed in the science class but must be put away when doing lab work.
12. No discourteous or disruptive behavior

14. THERE WILL BE NO WRITING ON THE LAB TABLES.
15. Cell phones are not permitted in class
16. All actions taken by students whether positive or negative will have a consequence. All students are responsible for their own actions.
17. Not following the rules in the lab and doing unauthorized experiments will result in a zero for that lab.
18. Please join my REMIND to get updates on tests and major assessments. Link for your block is found on my Google Site located on the CMS webpage. Please make sure you join the correct block.
19. All students/parents must sign off on their signed Flinn Safety Lab rules handout that I will be giving out to them on the first day of class as well as this Classroom Expectations sheet that you are currently reading prior to being allowed to participate in any labs. Also, students must pass the lab test as well.
Not following the rules will result in:
1. Discussion with the student and documentation in Genesis
2. Contact parent
3 Referral to the principal’s office
Thank you for your cooperation.
