Course Overview

Each course is designed to build stronger reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language skills. The digital curriculum will encourage advancement in skills necessary for college and career readiness. NJ Student Learning Standards will require students to read and analyze diverse, complex texts, and respond in a variety of formats. The curriculum pairs nonfiction and fiction allowing for a framework of analysis; while, multimedia resources bolster the unit by providing current, relatable and relevant material to assist students in gaining a deeper understanding.

Differentiated instruction is provided to each student based on their likes and strengths, and accommodations such as reading the text aloud, modeling active reading strategies, prompting to make annotations, and pre-teaching new vocabulary is offered to help foster critical reading skills. Writing expectations include answering critical reading questions in response to literature with use of textual evidence and writing a critical analysis. To aid performance, students are provided step by step instruction, color coded graphic organizers, and transitional word lists to advance writing skills.
