What is Title I?

Title I is a program that provides additional funds to schools, through the U.S. Department of Education, to be used on improving the academic achievement of the at-risk student.

Within our district, the program is referred to as ASI (Academic Support Instruction).

Which students are eligible for Title I/ASI programs?

WTSD is required to use multiple measures in determining the ASI status of a student.

Multiple measures include:

  • District-wide assessments

  • State assessments (NJ SLA)

  • Reading level

  • Past academic performance

  • Teacher recommendation

What are the goals of the ASI program?

The Academic Support Instruction (ASI) program provides eligible students with additional support in math and/or language arts literacy. ASI teachers are knowledgeable about the general education curriculum, skillful at anticipating student difficulties with learning tasks, and adept at working with the general education teacher to provide ongoing differentiation, adaptation, and modification of the general education curriculum.
