PE Rules and Expectations
PE RULES & EXPECTATIONS
2023-2024
Welcome to PE class! The biggest change this year is changing! You will be given a gym locker and you will be required to change for gym. What does this mean exactly??
Locker rooms- Unfortunately, we do not have enough lockers for everyone. Each student will get a locker and use it to lock up their belongings daily. Other students may be using the same locker. Therefore, every student should be coming to class with a bag of clothes, and leaving with a bag of clothes. (Your clothes will be kept and stored in your school locker when you are not in PE class) Everyone will have 5 minutes to change and do whatever you have to do in the locker room. After 5 minutes, if students are not in their attendance spots, it will count as a late to class.
What do I have to wear??? Students will be required to have a different change of clothes than what they come to school in. That means, a different shirt and different pants/shorts. This was ALWAYS the rule until COVID hit, BUT now we are back to normal.
You will need to have sneakers. CROCS ARE NOT PERMITTED IN PE CLASS! (no, not even in sports mode!) If you have a change of clothes and no sneakers, that will count as being unprepared for class.
NO PERFUMES OR SPRAY DEODORANTS ALLOWED! There is not enough ventilation in the locker rooms (or the gym!). Keep them at home!
__________________________________________________________________________________________
ABSOLUTELY NO EATING OR DRINKING IN THE GYM!...with the exception of water. If you are unable to handle having a water bottle in class, those will not be allowed either. There is a water fountain right outside the gym and that is what will be used if water bottles become an issue. If this becomes an issue, the participation grade will suffer.
Grading- Grading- you will be graded on attendance/preparation, participation, and skills.
Unprepared: -5 pts (not changed for class and/or no sneakers)
Lack of participation: -5 pts
skills/skills test:- 3 major grades are now required.
Attendance- for every day absent there will be about 3 points deducted from the student’s grade. IF an assignment is completed from our make-up work calendar, the points will be added back to their grade.
*** As the PE department, we strongly believe in sportsmanship, teamwork, and being a team player. If a student is unable to follow the rules, be kind and respectful to everyone, their participation grade will suffer. If students change, try their best and have a good attitude, there will never be an issue with their grade.
GUM- There is absolutely no gum chewing in PE class. Chewing gum in class will result in a deduction of points from your grade, and further disciplinary action if needed.
BATHROOM- After the locker rooms have been cleared, you will not be allowed to go back in to use the bathrooms; you will use the bathrooms directly across the hall from the gym. Also, please do not ask to go to the bathroom the first 10 minutes of class and the last 10 minutes of class. The bathrooms will not be open during those times.
NURSE-you will only go to the nurse if it is an emergency.
PASSES-passes are required whenever leaving the gym; unless it is to use the bathroom directly outside the gym. That is the ONLY exception.
DISCIPLINE- Every first offense is a warning. This means, it is documented in genesis so we (PE staff and administration) are aware of any behavioral issues.
2nd offense, documented in genesis and a phone call home.
3rd offense, documented in genesis and a written referral sent to the office.
CELL PHONES- cell phones are to be kept in your locker
cell phones are to be kept in your locker
The first time a cell phone is out for any reason, a teacher will ask for the phone and keep it until the end of class. This is considered a warning.
2nd time the phone is out, a teacher will ask for the phone, and send it to the main office with a discipline referral.
