Project Child Find is a free referral service and public awareness campaign to assist in the identification of unserved/underserved youth with a delay or disability from birth through twenty-one years of age. The Washington Township Public School District provides eligible students with a Free and Appropriate Public Education beginning at age 3 years.
The Child Study Team conducts evaluations of children ages 3 to 21, free of charge. Children who are determined eligible can receive special education and related services through the District's Department of Special Services.
The comprehensive efforts of Project Child Find include:
1. Assisting the families of infants and toddlers, birth through two, concerned about their child’s development by directing all requests regarding early intervention to the family’s local Special Child Health Case Management Unit.

2. Assisting families of preschoolers, aged three through five, concerned about their child’s development by directing requests to the local school district.
3. Helping families access community services through referral.
4. Promoting community and public awareness of all children with disabilities by providing information.
5. Assisting local school district Boards of Education to identify unserved children from age three through twenty-one, who need special education and related services.

Parents and guardians who are concerned that their child might be delayed in reaching developmental milestones are encouraged to reach out for assistance to the Washington Township Public School’s Child Study Team. If you are noticing concerns in any of the following areas, please contact our Child Study Team:
Communication of wants and needs
Identifying common objects
Difficulty learning new skills
Difficulty answering questions
Difficulty following directions
Avoids playing with other children
Has behavior that is very active, unusual, or difficult to manage
Has tantrums that the frequency and length are not typical for the child’s age
Has difficulty walking or running
Has difficulty holding small objects
Does not respond to familiar sounds
