Equipment Adoption FAQs

Complete the equipment adoption form or email: equipment@wsst.org

This service is completely FREE! You are not allowed to charge money for your items you are putting up for adoption. The only cost might be gas to go pick your items up. 

Any WSST member / science teacher who is in need of the equipment or who is looking to get rid of equipment.

No. All requests must happen through a science teacher. 

If the item is missing parts, please reach out to the person you got the item from. They might have forgotten to bring the parts along and might still have them. 

If the item is broken, please dispose of the item properly and contact equipment@wsst.org so we can make note of the situation.

Any items that are banned under standard school laboratory safety protocols, or other items that are unsafe to use in a school laboratory setting are striclty prohibited. These include, but are not limited to: Mercury and Mercury-containing devices, explosives, carcinogens, acute toxins, strong or specialized corrosives, radioactive materials, damaged or unsealed lasers, compromised equipment lacking up-to-date inspection stamps, chipped or cracked glassware. A general guideline to follow is if you would not feel safe using the equipment in your own laboratory, then it's not allowed to be put up for adoption. If the equipment is still in good, usable condition, you can relist the item(s) for adoption by filling out the adoption request form or emailing: equipment@wsst.org. 

It is up to the adopter and requester to create a plan for the hand-off. WSST is not responsible for this process.

There will no longer be an Equipment Adoption table at the WSST conference. However, if both parties will be at the conference, you could hand-off the materials in the parking lot before or after your attendance. 

We suggest you make sure adopting out your old equipment is permitted by your administration BEFORE making the equipment available for adoption. You may want to also check for any "decommissioning" guidelines at your school district. 

When you submit an item for adoption, your name, school location, and email address will be displayed on the 'Available Equipment' page alongside the photo of your equipment so other members can contact you to facilitate the exchange.
