Wilderness First Responder

Course Description:
This engaging course in Wilderness First Aid through Desert Mtn Medicine is taught by our wonderful seasoned instructor Billy Rankin. WFR certification is the gold standard certification in the outdoor industry and is required for most top end guide services and outdoor education programs. If you regularly travel, recreate, or go on extended day trips into the backcountry a WFR certification will serve you well. Hybrid Format / Canvas
You will get invited to Canvas 5-weeks before the course starts. Canvas is the online platform where you will be required to complete a total of 30-hours of online work before the course starts. Canvas contains modules with readings, videos, quizzes, and a midterm exam that all must be completed by June 2.
In Person Class Schedule
Class will run from 8:30am - 5:30pm at WCU (Building and Room TBD) every day with 30-45 minutes for lunch. There will be one night session on Thursday, June 6 from approximately 7:00-10:00pm. Pick up will be the morning of June 7th, unless registered in another class.
Attendance
You must be present for 100% of the class and complete the pre-work by June 2nd

Course Description:
Back by popular demand from last year's VentureX Academy and taught by Gunnison High School's dynamic STEM instructor, Conor Finney, each student will receive hands on instruction in tools, materials and safety procedures involved in ski and snowboard manufacturing, while actually designing and building their own pair off skis or snowboard.
In Person Class Schedule:
Class will run from 8:30am - 5:30pm at Gunnison HS Tech Room every day with 1:15 for lunch.
Limit: 1 student per day (overnight not required but suggested for out-of-town students). Once scheduled, a student may not miss their class day. If so, the day will be passed onto another student on the waiting list.
Attendance
You must be present for 100% of the full class instructional day to complete your skis or snowboard.
Date & Time: Friday, June 6th - Wednesday, June 11th. (Note: This class runs over a weekend).
Course Description:
Taught by a certified industry professional, this 5-day bike maintenance class will cover the basics of bike anatomy, fix-a-flat repair, the ABCs of bike maintenance, brakes, derailleurs, shifting and chains, as well as trail readiness. The class will culminate with a half-day trail skills class where all students will ride moderate trails in the Gunnison area. Bikes and helmets will be provided.
In Person Class Schedule:
Class will run from 9:30am - 5:30pm out of our WSSCC bike maintenance trailer on the Western CU campus (LocationTBD) every day with 45 minutes for lunch. The skills class will take place the afternoon of June 10th on a local Gunninson bike trail. Pick up will be the morning of June 11th.
