This is a full-day, family-friendly event. After check-in and a quick welcome, we’ll kick things off with a pep rally to get the contestants ready to go.

When students head into their contest rounds, parents/guardians and siblings will have their own activities: Parents will have a session about self-care with other families. Siblings will have crafting, music and dice games to try out. There’s built-in time throughout the day to connect with families from across Washington.

Lunch is provided for all attendees.

In the afternoon, join in the Zen Garden activity! No experience needed. 

We’ll finish with the day's results and a celebration. Accessibility supports are available all day, please share any accommodation needs during registration. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to help you find your next stop. All ages welcome!

Q: Is there any funding available to help with travel?

A: Yes! DSB is offering some funding for Washington students depending on family need. If the participating student will be under the age of 14 on 11/7/26 please contact Sara Logston (DSB), if the participating student will be 14 or older on 11/7/26 please contact Zita Letts (DSB). Due to application processing time and limited funds, please reach out ASAP!

Q: How do I determine which group to place the contestant?

A: This should be determine by the student's TVI or in collaboration with the student's TVI. There is a placement exam to help determine the appropriate group for the student. Read the Placement Exam Instructions first. Give the student 20 minutes to take the placement exam (Large Print Exam Questions, Nemeth Exam Questions). Grade the exam (Exam Answers). Give the student 2 points for each correct answer. If the student scores 45-52 points they should be a Blaster, if they score 36-44 points they should be a Flyer, if they score 26-35 points they should be a  Rider, if they score 18-25 points they should be a Mover, if they score 9-18 points they should be a Starter, and if they score 0-8 points they should be a Rover.

Q: When will I find out if my child qualified to go to the national Abacus Bee in Louisville?

A: We will announce the results from the regional contests on the day of the event. APH doesn't announce which contestants qualified for the national contest till after the new year. They wait till all regional contests are completed and scores from all contestants from across the country are compared to see who qualifies. Last year we had 2 students from Washington and the year before that we had 3 students attend.
