Homework will be given most nights on Monday through Thursday. Regular homework will consist of math, spelling, and reading or writing.
Math--Math homework will usually consist of one worksheet each night. The worksheet will review the skills that the students have learned and practiced since the beginning of the year.
Spelling--Students will be given a spelling list, as well as a list of possible spelling activities, on the first day of the week. Each night students will choose and complete one activity. Spelling homework will be checked daily. Students should also study for a spelling test that will be given on Friday. Spelling homework will begin soon.
Reading--Students are required to read for 80 minutes per week. A reading log will be handed out on Monday for students to record the time read, along with the title of the book. Students may read to themselves or someone else, such as a parent, sibling, or even a pet. A certain amount of time is not required each night as long as the weekly minutes are met by the end of the week. The record sheet will be signed by a parent or guardian and passed in on Friday. Reading homework is given to half the class every other week.
Writing--Students will free write for 15 minutes each night. Students may write in their homework notebook or may share their writing with me over Google Docs. Writing will be checked daily. I will be commenting on at least one part. Students should read the comment and make changes to their writing piece if necessary, as well as remember it for future entries. Although students may choose the topic for their writing, correct capitalization, punctuation, and spelling is important. Writing homework is given to half the class every other week.
