Welcome to World Geography and Civilization II (Social Studies) for Team 7-1! This year will be unlike any other, but in the American tradition of making the best out of every situation I am determined to do just that this year as your social studies teacher. Any difficulties we face as individuals or as a group can be better addressed with a realistic view and a positive attitude. We may not chose what happens to us, but we do choose how we react and I hope to model that in my professional work with you this year. I strive to be a fair, kind and engaging teacher that you and your family feel was helpful to you not just now, but twenty years from now.
This year we will begin first by making sure every student feels welcome and able to participate in remote learning. West Springfield Middle School has always been a high-performing school with a huge heart and that tradition will only be strengthened during remote learning. If you or someone in your family is having difficulty that it is getting in the way of you performing at your best we want to know so we can help or at least get you on the path to getting the help you need. I hope that you will feel engaged and able to perform at your best immediately, and promise to respond as quickly and as skillfully as I can to help you and your family.
The regularity of the schedule would be the first major difference from last year. We will be meeting every day at the same time. Work will also be daily rather than weekly. We generally follow a workshop model for class which means the teacher introduces a topic, assigns work, and supervises the completion of the work in class with a summarizing activity at the end. The idea is that each day is a complete unit and that there is less need for homework.
Email at boutilier@wsps.org is the best way to reach the teacher.
