The Youth Urban Gardening Internship (YUGI) offers high school students in northeast Winston-Salem the opportunity to gain experience and training in sustainable food gardening, nutrition, career readiness, and leadership through paid employment. The garden is currently being lead by Mr. Jeffords.

Sessions are offered in Spring, Summer, and Fall. Students work to grow fresh organic produce on the campus of Carver High School, and to participate in a variety of hands-on learning and skill-building activities along with farm to table nutrition cooking classes. Workdays are typically held two afternoons per week after school and part-day on Saturdays.

This program is a collaborative effort between Carver High School, the Forsyth Community Gardening program at N.C. Cooperative Extension - Forsyth County Center, and Crisis Control Ministry. It is part of a Healthy Eating Initiative funded by the United Way Place Matters Program (2016-2019) with additional support from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust.
