PCS Artist of the Day

May 20, 2019 Savannah

"It’s an angel. I started with tracing my feet and tracing my hands, then the next day I began to do the shirt and the pants and the hair. The rest of the details was the other day. She is falling in the clouds like a bird. I just did an angel. When you move your hand closer it looks bigger. If you want advice about drawing you can find me for advice. "

Savannah is a third grade artist at PCS.

Nov 2, 2018 - Eva

"When you took my picture, I kind of realized what we were going to do in art. A lot of people didn't feel very good about their work and said things about it that didn't feel good at all. I set myself up with a positive attitude so it helps to be a peaceful artist when you start. The more you think your art is positive, the more you like it. The more you draw, the better you get at it. Starting forward with a positive attitude can help you make artwork that's better than believed you could do. "

Eva is a fourth grade artist at PCS.

October 30, 2018 - Logan W

"So you get a piece of foam, then you get a picture of yourself. Then you tape the picture on the piece of foam. Then you get a not very sharp pencil, and dig into the paper and foam. And press really hard. Follow the lines of your face in the picture. When your done, you pick up the picture and take it off the foam. Then you get a roller, and then you should roll the ink onto the foam. Then you smash the foam onto a new piece of paper. Then you rub it really hard. Then you lift it up. Then you have a picture of yourself! Done."

Logan W. is a third grade artist.

October 12, 2018 - Carson

"Well, I just made a couple of dresses and I also made a couple of crowns, because I really wanted them to be princesses.

Also I made some skirts, and I also like the pants because they are zebra pants.

I also like the high heels because they look nice.

They are just standing there at the beach."

Carson is an artist in the Pre-K program here at PCS

September 25, 2018 - McKenzie

"The quote is: 'All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.'

"I thought this was a cool quote.

Sometimes you are unaware of where you are going to go, so trust your instinct and go where your instinct tells you to go.

This is my first journal entry. I used watercolor and collage.

I think my journal is great.

I'm a good artist. "

Mckenzie is a 6th grade artist at PCS.

September 24, 2018 - Zoe

"This is an art of Peru with three llamas.

One is a mamma, one is a kid, and one is a big sister.

I really enjoyed making it because I love painting and doing art.

I put on the pom-poms because the llamas in Peru wear pom-poms, and also I think it's fun.

I like that this art project is about llamas because I think they are really cute.

I hope the next one is about cats or kittens.

Zoe is a third grade artist.

September 18, 2018 - Ryan

"I was painting a Peru landscape in the art room.

There are a lot of rocks and hills and mountains and houses and stuff in Peru.

Llamas are bigger than alpacas.

We also painted llamas and we're gonna put them on the landscape.

I feel good about my landscape because I like painting and I'm good at painting.

Ryan is a third grade artist at PCS

September 7, 2018 - Noel

"I’m painting. I think my hair is painting too.

I’m painting a butterfly. Butterflies live at the museum.

My favorite color is white. I like butterflies. Working butterflies get nectar."

Noel and her pre-k friends have been learning about monarch butterflies in their classroom, reading about butterflies in library, and today they painted their own monarch butterflies in art class.

May 2, 2018 - Trinity

"This is called 'The Little Unicorn Bunny.'

There's wings, a horn, a fluffy bunny tail, and crooked ears.

I feel awesome about it!"

Trinity and all of the other kindergarten artists read "Matthew's Dream" by Leo Lionni, and were inspired to make mice, bunnies, and other small animals, with clay.

April 25, 2018 - Liam

"We thought of a view out a window.

We painted a landscape, then we made it 3-D by putting foam core to make the window pop out. I'm looking out the window and I see a KFP (Kentucky Fried Pizza). I want to go there and get some cheese pizza.

This was fun to make because I got to make up my dream place. I actually own KFP, that's why I live right across the street. My workers are happy to work there because they get free pizza and we make the best. It's finger lickin' good."

Liam is a fifth grade artist at PCS.

April 24, 2018 - Nash

"We were doing a project in art where we made clay pinch-pot planters. I made a pig because I think they are cute and also sometimes creepy.

My project turned out well. I imagine it to be a derpy pig.

I think it looks really good with flowers popping out of its head, and all the colors look nice."

Nash is a sixth grade student at PCS.

March 23, 2018

Louie, Nathaniel, and William

"Today, we just made art. Tiger lillies, daffodils, pink flowers, white flowers, happy flowers, sad flowers.

Nathaniel: "It's bee season, because it's summer. I like my art. Especially when it has bees on it."

Louie: "I liked making the ants."

William: "The ants are eating the roots of the flower. I don't know why."

Pre-k artists read "Planting a Rainbow" by Lois Ehlert today, and then made their own rainbow gardens, exploring shape, color, and pattern.

March 14, 2018 - Jayden

"Painting. Paint all around this part. I'm a good painter. A big fort. A T-raptor. I love dinosaurs."

Jayden is a kindergarten artist at PCS.

February 27, 2018 - Alyssa

February 27, 2018 - Alexis

"In art we made paste paper. We painted with things that wouldn't be used in most art, like a toothbrush and a fork. It was kind of funny. Mine came out pretty good. I call it "Storm."

I like art because you can make lots of cool things like people or flowers or windstorms.

I am a wild artist because I'm really good at art."

Alexis and her second grade art friends made paste paper today, which is a decorative paper made by laying down layers of color and scraping out the paint with all sorts of tools to create interesting designs. We will use this paper as the basis for an upcoming art project.

February 16, 2018 - Mateo

"I liked putting a Christmas Tree on my bug. I love my butterfly because I like the gold and the purple. Well, I like the flowers too. I like the spirals. I think my beetle should have wings.

It was easy to paint my bug.

Its good to paint."

Mateo and his pre-K friends read "Beetle Bop" and then made some colorful bugs and beetles and butterflies.

February 14-McKenzie and Natalie

"We are proud of our work and we focused hard on it and it was easy but it was hard to get the shapes how you wanted them. We used a special thing called scratchboard and we used exacto knives to scratch it- it took the black off to make it white. With a pencil, you're making dark lines on white. With scratchboard, you're making light lines on dark. It feels different.

Natalie- My piece of art is called "Cow Jumping Over the Moon." I feel like it came out well.

McKenzie- My picture is of a sad dog lying in the grass because he ate up all of his family's shoes so they locked him outside. It is called, "Sad Dog Outside." I'm really proud of it because it came out good.

Natalie and McKenzie are 5th grade artists at PCS. Keep a look out for an awesome scratchboard exhibit by 3rd and 5th grade artists!

February 9, 2018 - Mia

"It's a picture of my family. And my dog. I drawed it in art. My family is Erica, my mom, I think she spells it with a "c." Todd is my dad. He spells it T-O-D-D, and me. I have two cats now, but I really want to get a golden retriever so I drew a dog. I didn't really have time to draw cats. If I were to name my dog, I'd name it Lavender. But I don't have a dog now.

Mia and her pre-k friends read "David's Drawings" by Cathryn Falwell, and drew whatever they wanted to draw on a fresh piece of paper.

February 8, 2018 - Caroline

"I've had to redo this because I'm very sloppy, it's true. I like it because all the colors and varieties on the outside of it. It was basically an experiment in trying to use the spray paint. I tried to find words that were very unique and a little bit funny. The poem I found is:

getting tired standing there

maybe I could talk

with an electric blue light.

It's really weird but that's why I like it. I'm hoping to make another Found Poem with stencils and spray paint next class, because this one is fully finished. "

Caroline is a sixth grade artist at PCS

February 6, 2018 - Kiera

"I just used as much glitter as I could. I wanted to draw an eye, so I chose sad words so I could draw a crying eye. I enjoyed drawing the eye and pouring glitter. Drawing on a page in a book was fun because I like to see what poems I could make out of the words on the page. "

Kiera and the other sixth and seventh grade artists are doing a "Found Poetry" unit, where they are looking at words on the pages of discarded library books, and trying to cull a poem out of the text. Then they are using mixed media to combine text with image to make an illustrated poem.

January 31, 2018 - Bella

"We were making hearts.

We did it on paper so it wouldn't get messy.

And we used these sprays that had color.

I taped a heart on and then I sprayed it and then I tooked it off.

It looks gorgeous.

I love you mommy. Thank you for taking care of me, mommy. I hope mommy reads this."

Bella and her kindergarten friends looked at the work of Jim Dine today, and made spray paint stenciled heart mixed media paintings in response.

Stay tuned for hallway exhibit.

January 30, 2018 - Avery

"Picasso only paints in blue and I was making my own painting in blue.

Its light blue, tealish, and dark blue, and normal blue.

Blue makes me feel good because I like the color blue. It reminds me of the ocean.

I put some some sparkly blue streamers and some paper with silver sparkles on it to make it look better.

I just really liked my painting because it was very beautiful. I felt happy when I was making my painting."

Avery and the second grade art class have been studying Picasso's blue period, and doing mixed media painting/collages in response.

January 29, 2018 - Juliette

Well, I cut out paper into shapes and then flipped it.

And then cut out that shape, and flipped it again.

It was a little challenging because it was hard to think of different shapes to cut out.

Some of my shapes remind me of leaves.

I am a good designer because I am awesome."

Third graders are exploring a Japanese design concept called Nōtan (濃淡).

It involves the play and placement of light and dark elements in the composition of art and imagery.

January 26, 2018 - Emma

"I am painting with one hand. With two hands. Blue and Red. Green and Purple. Blue and Red. And green. And that's it."

Emma and her pre-k artist friends painted with sponges today in art class.

January 19, Vera-

"The boy picked up one of the snowballs but he didn't throw it yet. Jack Frost is putting her hands out to block it. The swirl of wind is blowing in his face.

Well, I didn't have room for the face, so I just put a spiral nose and two circle eyes on Jack Frost.

Jack Frost is a girl who comes in the the winter. She brings wind and snow and patterns. I saw Jack Frost when I was going to a skating rink and the patterns of the windows on the car, I saw swirls.

She had already done the patterns before we even got in the car."

Vera and her pre-k friends made art after reading the book Here Comes Jack Frost by Kazuno Kohara

January 17, Tenley

" So, my guinea pig might be small but he's still cute and my baby sister is sooooo adorable and she never stops moving and crying in the night.

She keeps doing that forever and ever and ever, then she gets really grumpy and starts to cry.

My guinea pig is sooooo adorable, he even chews on my finger and when my mom first got him he was like licking me in the nose forever.

It was so much funny, and my cousin Laura is coming over so I'm a little scared that my adorable guinea pig might bite her.

I made this guinea pig by I kept weaving up and down with purple, pink, blue, purple, yellow,

then I started making the head so pretty and because my guinea pig is so adorable I made some ears for it.

But my fishy died and I miss it so much, we put him in the trash.

That's the end. That's all I want to say, ok?

Go! I just like saying Go! cause I just like it."

Tenley is a kindergarten artist at PCS. She is five years old and her favorite color is blue.
