The Vermont Dual Enrollment program, 16 V.S.A. § 944, includes up to two college courses for eligible Vermont high school students. The Agency of Education has oversight of the dual enrollment program and will work with partner institutions of higher education to manage the delivery to students.
Dual enrollment courses provided for in this legislation can be offered on a college campus, online, and on-site at a participating high school. See list of participating colleges below. (vt.aoe.gov)
Dual Enrollment is available for juniors and seniors. Juniors may start taking courses in the fall of their junior year. Seniors may start during the summer before their senior year.
Students who wish to take challenging college courses are expected to be independent, driven and demonstrate the ability to balance school, work, sports and family life. The dual enrollment process is completed by the student as well as contacting your desired college and signing up for a class. Students must be approved by the school counselor to be eligible for dual enrollment.
Steps to Sign Up for a Dual Enrollment Course:
Consider where you would like to take a class.
Meet with your school counselor to discuss your options, where it would fit in your schedule, etc.
Request a student account at: https://dualenrollment.vermont.gov/vtde
Contact the college to set up an appointment. Be sure to mention Dual Enrollment. Some things that may be covered in your appointment with the college counselor include:
Whether an Accuplacer test is needed
Discussion of courses that fit with your goals and background
Possible related fees for your courses (lab fees, books) which Dual Enrollment doesn’t cover.
Some colleges will want you to complete their online application.
Apply for the voucher at: https://dualenrollment.vermont.gov/vtde. You will be asked if this class is part of your PLP---answer yes, as the course must be part of your PLP for the state to pay for the class.
Follow up with your school counselor so that your schedule reflects the class you are taking.
