Skills Class and Fundamentals of Math
The objectives of Skills class encompass three broad areas. The first is to support students with IEP's in meeting the classroom expectations of all of their courses.
The second objective is to conduct ongoing "future planning" activities to address transition planning goals and objectives of each student's IEP,
The third broad objective is to address specific IEP needs, goals and objectives.
Skills is not a study hall. Rather it is a support service designed to allow for direct special education support to students to address learning needs and to insure students have the resources available to maximize their chances for success in all types of school experiences.
Students are expected/required to be engaged in some form of instruction during Skills. Whether it be support in completing homework, reviewing class materials, future planning activities or general IEP related English and math tasks, each student will be required to be engaged in some type of activity.
Skills is a graded course running for 38 minutes per day and offering two credits.
Fundamentals of math is an IEP driven course designed to address math needs of its students. Through practical, real world math applications, students address specific IEP goals and long term math needs.
Math Fundamentals is designed to be highly flexible with a wide range of student needs and abilities.
Fundamentals runs for 38 minutes per day and offers two credits towards graduation.
Hard Work Plus Skills Support Leads to Success
About me
I have been working with special needs students of all abilities and with many different types of needs for the past 30 years. I am, however, relatively new to BUHS with this being only my second year teaching in Vermont.
I love working with special needs students and I love living in New England. The fall leaves, the summer breezes and the winter snow make living in this area a dream. I could, however, live just fine without mud season and black flies.
