My name is Habame Scholz- Karabakakis and I am graduating with the senior class of 2023. I have spent the last year preparing to graduate a year early through this Flexible Pathways class with Ms. Thielen.
Last year I was a sophomore new to the school and new to public High School. To say the least, I did not end up having a great experience. My counselor at the time suggested I explore the possibility of a Flexible pathways class.
My first goal was to Graduate Early which included:
Had to find a way to exactly meet the criteria and credit requirements. (I passed the requirements credits just barely)
How to structure the course to work for both Ms. Thielen and me.
File the "Early Graduation Application"
Then I discovered I wanted to take a Gap Year Rather than go straight to college. The primary reason I would like to graduate early is to take a gap year to travel and gain some insight into the world.
My second goal was to take a Gap Year wish included:
Finding programs that I qualified for and was exited about
Doing enough research to back up my choice
And finally choosing the best option
As part of a Flexible Pathways credit elective with Miss Thielen as my advisor, I researched universities/colleges, career paths, and gap year study abroad programs. We met an average of 2 to 3 times per week.
My third and final goal was to explore College and Career options:
Touring colleges
Researching each option to find the ones that fit me best
Reflecting on my interests to narrow down career paths
