I am not originally from Ludington. I am from Muskegon. I love being outside. My favorite types of books are science fiction books. I love coffee, what educator doesn't? I have 2 cats that fill my camera roll with cuteness.
I have always wanted to be a teacher. I remember as a young student, I would come home and try and teach my younger siblings what I had learned at school that day. My siblings didn't enjoy it at all. I have learned that I am passionate about learning, teaching, and science. Naturally, becoming a science teacher was the perfect place for me.
What is an effective strategy you use in the classroom?
KAGAN!!! I use Kagan strategies in my classroom daily. This helps with establishing routine and managing behaviors. Ludington is a 1 to 1 iPad district. In my class, we do a combo of paper activities and digital activities. I feel this keeps the students engaged because it's not working on the iPads all the time.
What is your best time management tip? How do you keep a healthy work/life balance?
Making lists. I like checking things off on my lists and I can prioritize what needs to be done first. I do not reply to emails after 3pm or on weekends. I make sure to get my lessons set for the next day and if nothing else gets done that's ok. I cannot be in "teacher mode" all the time. It's ok to leave stuff for tomorrow.
What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?
The students and the content. I love being able to connect with my students and provide them with a safe space to be everyday. I also am probably the biggest nerd I know and I just love all of the sciences. The sciences are so fun and exciting to me!
