WSD word lists

The following lists are started in Kindergarten and continue to the end of second grade.

These lists are the same lists used in the regular classrooms.

  • Have your child learn only a few words at a time. For example, if your child doesn’t know any words on the list, start with the first five. When he/she knows three of those five, add two more. Follow whatever works best for your child. Play games, races, sidewalk chalk, shaving cream, dry erase boards, etc.
  • The intention of this list is for your child to quickly read the word without having to sound it out. Stay with one list at a time until your child knows the whole list. Review random known words periodically so your child doesn’t forget them. Spending a few minutes every day practicing the words is better than practicing once a week for a longer time.
