The following lists are started in Kindergarten and continue to the end of second grade.
These lists are the same lists used in the regular classrooms.
Have your child learn only a few words at a time. For example, if your child doesn’t know any words on the list, start with the first five. When he/she knows three of those five, add two more. Follow whatever works best for your child. Play games, races, sidewalk chalk, shaving cream, dry erase boards, etc.
The intention of this list is for your child to quickly read the word without having to sound it out. Stay with one list at a time until your child knows the whole list. Review random known words periodically so your child doesn’t forget them. Spending a few minutes every day practicing the words is better than practicing once a week for a longer time.
