Program Description

The Gifted Education Program is designed to provide challenge and enrichment to identified gifted students. A differentiated curriculum emphasizing critical thinking, problem solving, and creative thinking skills is provided through interdisciplinary instruction. Students explore areas of personal interest and aptitude not typically provided in the general education program. In addition, social and emotional aspects of each student are recognized, considered, and nurtured.

Students at Frontier Middle receive services during the regular school day and as part of a separate Horizons class. Students are assigned a Horizons class during their team's Core+ time. 7th and 8th grade students meet one period every other day in an A/B schedule. On non-Horizons days, students are in an extra Academic Arts class on the alternating day. As the Horizons class is a regularly scheduled class at the middle school level, students do receive a letter grade for the class on their regular report cards.
