Words Their Way is a developmental approach to spelling that allows students to focus on word patterns that increase in difficulty as students progress. There are no take home lists or weekly tests. Instead we use informal assessments to measure and track progress.Â
Encouraging your child to write can be difficult when they do not feel confident in the skill. As a beginning writer it is important for your child to feel as though they have accomplished something, and not that they did it incorrectly because there is no capital letter, period at the end, or the spelling is wrong. You can model the need for informal writing by allowing your child help you write the grocery list, make a birthday card for a family member, create a weekend list of chores, etc. Writing looks so many different ways! As long as your child is writing and creating, they are learning! Enjoy working together and seeing their growth!
