As a FACS teacher and the Practical Arts Department Chair at NPHS, I am excited about our programming and love being part of the Grizzly community. I have been teaching since 2006 and joined WSD in 2012 at Holt.
Initially, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Apparel & Textiles with a double specialization in Retail Management and Fashion Design from Mizzou and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in retail management, operations, quality assurance and technical fashion design at several large corporations. in the apparel industry.
I earned my Family and Consumer Sciences certification from Southeast Missouri State University. In 2009, I completed a Masters Degree in Education at Lindenwood University then earned a second Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Northwest Missouri State University in 2020.
I am a Certified Secondary Foodservice Educator through the National Restaurant Association and continue to grow my culinary skills by attending their Prostart Summer Institutes for culinary arts educators. In 2012, I was named the Missouri Prostart Educator of the Year. I have coached culinary teams to many Missouri Prostart State Invitational Culinary and Management competitions including a first place win in Management resulting in a trip to the National Competition.
I work as an advisor to two student organizations, Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) advisor and Educators Rising. For the past few years, I have been a board member of MoEFCS (Missouri Educators of Family Consumer Sciences), a professional organization for FACS teachers in Missouri. I also serve on the Board of Directors for the STL Fashion Alliance which is a professional organization focused on the fashion industry and related industries in the area.
I live in Wentzville with my husband and Golden Retriever, Copeland. For fun, I enjoy spending time with family, boating, traveling, reading, watching movies, sewing and baking.
I am passionate about the FACS content area because we are teaching students skills they will use for life regardless of their chosen profession.
As a graduate of Holt High School, I was fortunate to begin my teaching career at my alma mater and now I love at NPHS and begin part of the Grizzly community! Through the A+ Program, I attended St. Charles Community College to earn my Associate Degree in Secondary Education. I completed my Bachelor’s of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences Education at Missouri State University. Once teaching at WSD, I earned my Masters in Educational Technology from the University of Central Missouri and graduated in May 2020.
While attending MSU, I was a director at The Goddard School in Springfield, Missouri. Working in Early Childhood Education at Goddard for 4 years prepared me well for the Child Development courses I currently teach and to run The Cub's Den, our in-house preschool program.
I serve as an advisor of Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) advisors and Educators Rising.
Some of my favorite things to do in my free time are being outdoors, working out, baking and crafting. I keep busy with my son and dog.
I have a true passion for teaching and love making a difference. I enjoy teaching Family and Consumer Sciences because no matter what profession students are going into they will use the information learned in our courses.
While in high school, I had 2 amazing FACS teachers that inspired me to become one. I attended the University of Missouri and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education. I went back to Mizzou to earn a Master's Degree in Human Development and Family Studies a few years later. I began teaching at Jefferson City High School where I served as FCCLA advisor. When my family was ready to move closer to home, I found an amazing opportunity at North Point High School. This will be my 4th year at NPHS and 10th year teaching. I am also excited to be an FCCLA advisor this year!
I am a certified Prostart educator and earned my ServSafe Food Manager certification through the National Restaurant Association.
My favorite thing about teaching FACS is providing students with practical skills they can use throughout their lives, both personally and professionally and I can't wait to see all the amazing things my students will do after high school.
I live in Bowling Green with my family. We have a son and daughter, 3 dogs and chickens that keep us busy! My favorite things to do include cooking, anything outdoors, reading and hanging out with family.
