Our Branches are families made of a staff leader and students grades K-5 together. We meet monthly as a Branch Family and students remain with the same family during all of their years at Riverside

Our Branches meetings are off to a great start. Students spent time noticing and highlighting the positive traits of others and themselves.

Racers enjoyed the Detroit Lyrical Opera on Monday which traveled to Riverside to perform "The Three Billy Goats Gruff"

The performance had a strong message of NO BULLYING and students were able to engage in conversation and questioning following the performance.

Riverside PTO is hosting Trunk-or-Treat this Friday. Please feed the monster (donate candy) by Wednesday. You may also help by volunteering through the sign up genius to bring your trunk full of candy for trick or treaters.

Please look for detailed information regarding Halloween Activities from your child's teacher.

Students are NOT to wear their costumes to school. All costumes are to be brought to school in a bag.

Costumes with weapons or that depict horror/terror will not be allowed. When choosing a Halloween costume for your child, please avoid costumes that have a horror or violence theme. Students may NOT bring toy guns, knives, or swords to school as part of their costumes.

The above information is shared FYI and reading is optional. We do have a Racer with this rare gene mutation. Understanding each other is a part of helping each other. October 22nd is PMS Awareness Day.

Thank you to our Literacy Specialists for empowering our Kdg and 1st grade parents to team with us in ensuring reading & writing success for all of our students. #WeAREtheirVillage

Parents spend time learning followed by watching their children perform then having lunch with their children in school.

The weather is changing. Please be sure to dress students for outdoor recess. There are hooks in the cafe for use while they eat lunch.

Some recess takes place BEFORE the predicted high temperature is reached for the day.

Fifth Grade Readers spent time last week engaging in rich discussion via Skype with the author of the book they just completed reading and discussing.

Conversation around theme, characters, setting, inspiration, and more. They even gave their book recommendations to the author for works other than her own. Ask your Racer about their experience.

Important Things to Remember

Blessings in a Back Pack would LOVE to serve more of our students. All they need is your permission. 70% of our students qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch, we only have less than 30 % taking home back packs of food for the weekend. It is very discreet and the children love them. As a parent, it is a time saver. Please consider signing up.

This Friday is Half Day Dismissal for students and staff. 11:57 AM. Childcare is available for those enrolled. Please contact them directly with questions.

While it is nice that many parents have direct contact with teachers, it is policy to inform the office of ALL necessary changes in dismissal routine for students. Once the day begins, teachers are ... well, teaching. The office staff is has a process in place to make sure students receive messages reported to the office by 3:30 (2:30 on Thursdays). Please ALWAYS inform the office of attendance issues and changes in dismissal routine.

Please Help our Safety Patrol

This year Sonic is teaming with DonorsChoose.org for a contest called Limeades for Learning.

From now through October 27th, please vote for Support our Safeties.

We are trying to win this contest and we need your help! Week 4 usually needs around 2,500 – 3,000 votes so we need as many votes as possible to get this project funded. Here’s how it works:

Donors vote for their favorite project once per day, per e-mail address, at www.limeadesforlearning.com. If you have more than one email address, you can vote using each one. You have to sign up at first, and verify your email. After that, voting is easy.

Get a code that counts for 2 votes (yes, 2!) by visiting your local SONIC Drive-In and making a purchase.

Vote online ten times and get two extra vote codes.

Each week SONIC will fund up to $250,000 towards the projects that receive the most votes.

Thank you so much,

The fifth grade team.
