Daily Homework Expectations:
*Alphabet Letter Sounds and Names/Chanting Chart: 2 minutes
Please have your child practice their alphabet letter sounds and letter names. There is an alphabet chanting chart included in your child's Mail Folder. You can keep this chart at home and practice daily until your child knows all their alphabet letter sounds and name. I will do a re-assessment of your child's alphabet knowledge again monthly.
*Printing and Number Concept Practice: 2 minutes
Please have your child practice their alphabet letter and number concept formation daily using a washable or whiteboard marker directly on the page protector sheet. If your child has this in their mail folder, they need extra practice with their fine motor skills holding a pencil/marker along will practicing proper letter and number formations. You can keep these practice sheets at home to work on daily.
Recommended daily home reading: 15 minutes
Raz-kids: Students are expected to read 15 minutes daily on Raz-kids. This year, students will use Raz-Kids to access individually assigned books at their reading level. Students are encouraged to 1. listen to the book 2. read the book and 3. complete the comprehension quiz for the book. Please record daily home reading in the yellow my home reading booklet. I will assess your child monthly to determine their new level and growth.
Number Book & Sight Word Cards: 5-10 minutes
Your child will also bring home a green number book and sight word cards printed on green paper.
• Please cut out the sight word cards and practice them daily.
• Once your child knows all the words on the card (reads them automatically without needing to sound out), please sign “knows all words” and return it to school for the next level.
• If your child still needs to think or sound out the words, please continue practicing and do not send it back yet—try again the next day.
• In the green number book home reading log, please record the date, the title of the book, and who your child read to. Only sign “knows all words” when your child can read them automatically.
