Course Descriptions
Graphic Design 9 (0.5 credit) – GRHR1G: Students are introduced to all areas of design. Skills are developed in many areas such as screen printing, airbrushing, design and layout, photography, and typography. The course emphasis is on digital image creation, editing, and software applications. *This course is eligible for the Kelvin Visual Arts Certificate.
Graphic Design 10 – GRAR2G: This course is a continuation of the Grade 9 Graphic Design course. However, the grade 9 level is not a prerequisite. Skills are developed and refined in areas that include: advertising art, vector illustration, raster (bitmap) editing, screen printing, vinyl cutting, airbrushing, print layout, and publication. Students planning a career in architecture, interior design, engineering, graphic arts, and fine arts are encouraged to enroll in this course. *This course is eligible for the Kelvin Visual Arts Certificate.
Design Drafting 11 &12 (NEW) – DRAR3G/4S: Embark on an immersive high school STEM design program, where students explore the intricacies of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through hands-on experiences and real-world applications. The course will start with an overview of STEM disciplines, design thinking principles and basic prototyping. Students will then delve into interactive design, engineering applications and an engineering challenge project which will incorporate electronics and programming. The culmination of the program centers around individual or group capstone projects, fostering self-directed learning and critical thinking. This dynamic curriculum aims to cultivate the next generation of STEM leaders, equipped with the knowledge and awareness to tackle real-world challenges. *This course is eligible for the Kelvin Visual Arts Certificate.
